News and Updates

Curriculum

ELA:
We will be working on slant writing and introducing cursive. We will begin the quarter with how to write complete sentences and paragraphs.

For reading, we will be learning about a variety of nonfiction and fiction stories through read alouds, small group instruction, and our Harcourt Storytown series. Our focus skills will be characters, setting, and main ideas and details.

Math:
The students will be assessed on daily math facts. Your child should be bringing home his/her envelope each night for you to see his/her progress. The students are also more than welcome to take home copies of fast facts to practice at home.X-Tra Math is a great website available for students to use at home. Please let me know if you need your child's log-in information.

In addition to math facts, the students will be learning addition/subtraction word problems, graphing, place value to 1,000, and telling and writing time to 5 minutes.

Science and Social Studies
are integrated into our studies through monthly lessons, experiments, STEAM lessons, and Scholastic News articles and activities.

Welcome!

    Welcome to 2nd Grade!!!!

I am very excited to be working with you! My goal is to help support my students as they grow as great readers and learners.

This year, you will see your child become more independent academically and socially. Second graders are eager to play, learn, and make sense of their worlds. They will be able to accept more responsibilities and follow more complex routines. The great pride that they feel in their accomplishments motivates them to do more.

The demands of education on every grade level are great. If we keep the practice systematic and fun, much can be done. I have included information and Internet links on this page for you to use when helping your child. If you feel that he/she is struggling in any way, do not hesitate to contact me.
