Blackhawk School District News Article

2nd Quarter Highlights!

ELA:
For writing, we will be reviewing how to write complete sentences. We will also be learning how to write paragraphs with a topic sentence, 3 or more details, and a closing sentence. We will focus on personal narratives.

For reading, we will be learning about a variety of nonfiction and fiction stories through read alouds, small group instruction, and our Harcourt Storytown series. Our focus skills will be author's purpose and nonfiction and fiction,

Math:
The students will be assessed on daily math facts. Your child should be bringing home his/her envelope each night for you to see his/her progress. The students are also more than welcome to take home copies of fast facts to practice at home. Remember that X-Tra Math is a great website available for students to use at home. Please let me know if you need your child's log-in information.

In addition to math facts, the students will be learning place value, 2-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping, and counting money to solve word problems.

Science and Social Studies are integrated into our studies through monthly lessons, experiments, STEAM lessons, and Scholastic News articles and activities.
