In Math, we use the Go Math! series, covering a wide range of topics: addition and subtraction to 1000 strategies, representing and interpreting data, and multiplication. Students are also engaged in Guided Math/Balanced Numeracy. The students work in small groups with teachers to differentiate concepts. Other students are participating in Math with Technology, Independent Math Practice, and Partner Math Practice.

In Reading, we are using the Daily 5 system. This is an opportunity for students to read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, work with words, and work on writing. While students are doing this we are working with small groups conducting guided reading groups where we are focusing on skills differentiated according to student need. Some of the skills include comprehension, back up and reread, non-fiction text features, fact and opinion, locating information, point of view, sequence of events, characters and setting, fluency, and accuracy. We also target these skills within our weekly reading passages in our Storytown books.

In English, the students will study subjects and predicates, sentence structures, and nouns. Students will also spend time writing. Our spelling aligns with weekly Storytown lessons and phonics. Students are assessed on 15 words plus 5 challenge words. See below for the weekly spelling and vocabulary lists if you like to get a head start.
