Update 2/8/23
According to a press conference today (2/8/23), the evacuation zones have been lifted and the road closures have been opened. All students should be able to be transported to and from school tomorrow, February 9, 2023 as normal.
For families who chose to evacuate, absences for the remainder of the week will be considered excused. Absent students can work from Schoology, should they be able to. Families of K-4 students can either contact their child’s teacher for work or can get caught up upon their return to school. Should your family be impacted and you need assistance, please reach out to your child’s school.

Music with Mrs. Bonnar

Welcome to Music at Blackhawk Intermediate School!
My name is Amy Bonnar.  I have a degree in Music Education from Westminster College, Level 3 certification in Orff-Schulwerk from the University of St. Thomas, and Master's degree in Special Education from Robert Morris University.  I have been teaching music to children for many years and this is my 8th year at Blackhawk. It is my privilege to see Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade classes every 4 school days to make music and learn together.

Elementary Music Overview

All students at Blackhawk Elementary Schools receive 40 minutes of General Music instruction once every four days. Learning is experiential and includes active participation in music through singing, moving, playing instruments, and listening. Principles and practices of the Kodaly, Dalcroze, and Orff-Schulwerk methods of music learning are used. Cross-curricular connections are made to other content areas using art, technology, and children’s literature. At this level students are learning to identify and use the building blocks of music. Experiences at the Elementary level will prepare the students for further study of music in the district and beyond. Most importantly music encourages community and cooperation providing an environment in which students can grow and learn together.
