3^rd Marking Period Goals

ELA:

v Know and apply previous and current spelling rules

v Know, apply and retain High Frequency Words (HFW)

v Read fluently –Don’t read like a robot, recognize and pause for punctuation

v Read Guided Reading Level-H

v Comprehend and Retell Stories

v Demonstrate an understanding of new vocabulary words

v Use grade appropriate conventions and grammar in writing (CUPS-Capitals, Usage, Punctuation, Spaces and Spelling)

v Write an opinion paragraph that includes: introduction of topic, opinion statement, 3 or more reasons (expand with evidence), closing opinion statement

Math:

v Continue to practice fluency for adding and subtracting facts within 10

v Focus on subtraction strategies for facts to 20 (count back 1, 2, 3, or 4; use addition to think subtraction, use ways to make 10 and break apart to subtract 

v Count, read and write to 120, apply place value to 99 

v Compare 2 digit numbers (<, >, =)

v Organize and interpret date using a graph

v Define and create 2D shapes

Ways to help out at home:

v Practice spelling words (new and prior), sounding out words 

v Be on the lookout for words that fit our spelling rules in everyday reading

v Read aloud stories to hear fluency

v Discuss stories (who, what, where, when, why, feelings etc.)

v When asking your child their opinion try to get them to site reasons

v Practice addition and subtraction facts

v Compare amounts using terms like greater than or less than

v Organize items in the house by their attributes

v Practice counting, reading and write numbers in order and randomly

v Talk about the various attributes of shapes and what shapes are used to create different items
