Blackhawk Intermediate School

This number is for NON-EMERGENCY calls. If you have an emergency, call 911.
In an ongoing effort to promote a safe learning environment, the district is providing the community with an anonymous tip line phone number. The purpose of the tip line is to allow the community the ability to share information anonymously regarding issues that may put others’ safety in danger.  Community members can report information about drugs, weapons, alcohol, violence or any threat to safety.  While this can be done anonymously, the more information given (including one’s name), the greater the ability the district has to do a complete investigation and resolve the situation quickly.

Scientists, Engineers, and Mathematicians For Service (SEMFS) from the University of Pittsburgh is inviting you to attend our annual Super Science Saturday! This is a 3 hour long event where we divide up participants by age level and present age-appropriate science, math, and engineering topics and give the kids some creativity and freedom to learn about these topics hands on. Last year the kids had fun modeling the a human cell, creating chemical reactions, and building roller coasters (just to name a few activities!). This year we have all new events planned, so don't worry about getting bored!
This event will take place Saturday, April 13th from 9am to 12pm in Benedum Hall at the University of Pittsburgh. This event will have STEM presentations and hands on activities for all grade levels from K-12. Feel free to invite anyone who would benefit from this day of science and fun! A registration form is linked below. We will be providing light snacks during the event and have a note on the registration form for any allergies.

road work ahead

Road Work on Shenango Road

We wanted to reach out to be as proactive as possible in regards to the construction on Shenango Road. Columbia Gas is replacing nearly 6000 feet of underground pipe. It is anticipated that this work will continue all school year from 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with temporary lane restrictions.  Construction will occur along Shenango Road. While we can not change the road work, we can create a transportation plan to help expedite the travel of buses through the construction during dismissal and arrival time for our students at BIS and HMS. We appreciate the time McCarter’s staff has spent to create plans for dismissal and arrival time that we feel may lessen the congestion. At this time, with the roadwork, our transportation is running about ten minutes behind schedule. We ask for your patience as we work through this together to ensure the safe transport of all of our students to and from school. We will continue to meet with McCarter’s Transit Inc. to work together and be as proactive as possible. As the congestion increases, we will be informing you of any changes to our dismissal process to help to alleviate the congestion on Shenango Road.
